Luso-American Education Foundation Fraternal Youth Scholarship Guidelines and Application

The Luso-American Financial – A Fraternal Benefit Society is dedicated to helping our youth members attend and succeed in the educational arena. The Luso-American Fraternal, PCU and SPRSI Youth Scholarships are managed and maintained through the Luso-American Education Foundation (LAEF).

The Luso-American Financial offers numerous Youth Scholarships for its members. All applicants must be….

  1. A member of Luso-American Fiancial and policy holder in good standing for a minimum of 2 years.
  2. Currently a high school graduating senior.

Applicant may apply for multiple scholarships but only one will be awarded


  • (A-1) Fraternal Youth Scholarship; a non-renewable scholarship ranging from $500 to $1,000.

    Requirements:

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four-year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  3. Applicant must be a member of a West Coast Youth Council.

  • (A-2) TOP Fraternal Youth Membership Scholarship; a $4,000 scholarship which is paid out over the course of four years; or a $2,000 scholarship which is paid out over the course of four years. (2 awardees)

     Requirements:

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four-year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.5
  3. Applicant must have served as a Luso-American Fraternal State Youth Officer or has a significant
    involvement in a Luso-American Fraternal Youth Council.
  4. Applicant must be a member of a West Coast Council
  • (A-3) Joaquim Pereira Memorial Scholarship; a non-renewable scholarship for $1,000.

Requirements:

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four-year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.5
  3. Applicant must be an active youth member in a Youth Council.
  4. Applicant must be a member of a West Coast Luso Council
  • (A-4) Antonio Mattos Memorial Scholarship; a non-renewable scholarship for $1,000.

Requirements:  *Applicant must not be a direct descendant of the donor

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four-year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  3. Applicant must be an active youth member in a Youth Council.
  4. Applicant must be a resident of Sacramento or East Bay (CA) area.
  5. Applicant must have excelled in a sport during their four years in high school.
  • (A-5) Frank Dias Memorial Scholarship; a non-renewable scholarship for  $1,000.

  Requirements: Applicant must not be a direct descendant of the donor

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four-year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  3. Applicant must be an active youth member in a Youth Council.
  4. Applicant must be a resident of Northern California.
  • (A-6) Ryan “Munchie” Taylor Memorial Scholarship; a non-renewable scholarship for a $1,000.

Requirements: Applicant must not be a direct descendant of the donor

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four-year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.5
  3. Applicant must have held a local or State Youth Officer position and performed in the Youth Theatrical
    Program.
  4. Applicant must be a member of Youth Council #24 Northern San Joaquin Valley.

  • (A-7) Shannon Sequeira Memorial Scholarship; a non-renewal scholarship

Requirements: Applicant must not be a direct descendant of the donor

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four-year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Applicant desired course of study teaching/education.
  • A-8) Orlando & Lena Pascoa Memorial Scholarship; a non-renewal scholarship

RequirementsApplicant must not be a direct descendant of the donor

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Applicant desired course of study is music/arts.

  • (A-9) LAL – East (PCU) Scholarship; a non-renewable scholarship for $1,500

Requirements: Applicant must not be a direct descendant of the donor

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four-year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  3. Applicant must be involved in a Fraternal East Coast Lodge and a resident of one of our East Coast
    States (Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, or Rhode Island).
  • (A-10) SPRSI Youth Scholarship; a non-renewable scholarship ranging from $500 to $1,500.  

Requirements:

  1. Applicant must have applied to begin classes at a community college, trade school, or four-year College/University.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  3. Applicant must be a member of SPRSI.

General Instructions

  1. DEADLINE for scholarship applications is MARCH 1st.
  2. You may download a copy of the application on our website.  www.luso-american.org/laef

  4. The application and following items must be postmarked or received in our office by MARCH 1st for the application to qualify and reviewed by the scholarship committee. Your application will not be considered if these items are not received.
    • Completed Scholarship Application
    • Proof of GPA. Your most recent official school transcript required.
    • One Letter of Recommendation from a Personal Acquaintance, Teacher, Counselor, or Luso Adult Officer.
    • Most recent wallet sized photo of yourself (e-mail to education@luso-american.org) , and must include your full name.
